Introduction
That’s my five year old granddaughter, smiling as she surfs the wave. What will the world be like when she turns 20 – or 220? We don’t know.
This website aims to provide pointers as to where the world is headed so you can plan your personal and business lives. The information has been gleaned from a wide range of sources and is regularly updated as new information comes to hand. For much of the past twenty years I have been publishing articles about the future which were included in the twice monthly MBendi newsletters. Now that I have left MBendi, I have created a regular E-mail Brian’s Musings newsletter aimed at stimulating your thinking. You can contact me to join the subscription list. As I’ve collated my bits and pieces of information for my musings, so I have identified nine major trends that are sweeping the globe. The population of the world is growing and growing older. Climate change and environmental degradation could lead to the death and displacement of millions each year. Migration and urbanisation continue unabated as people seek greener pastures. Low cost renewable energy is leading to the death of oil, gas and coal. Information is power and mass data storage and mining is empowering a handful of companies and countries. Automation is leading to increased unemployment while automated electric vehicles are taking to the roads, railways and airspace. The gap between rich and poor continues to widen. Finally, globalisation in all its forms continues apace. In my book, Guessing Our Future – Signposts to 2050, I have documented each of these trends as well as providing a chapter suggesting ways countries, companies and individuals can identify the opportunities and challenges arising out of these trends and prepare accordingly. You can download the November 2017 edition of my book below. My forecast is not the final answer. I am sure you are going to have constructive criticisms and better ideas than me. I invite you to use Brian's Blog to share these with the rest of us. Good reading and inspirational thinking! Brian Paxton
